120 battements par minute
Robin Campillo
Robin Campillo’s fictional film, co-written with Philippe Mangeot, follows Act Up-Paris activists in the early 1990s. Newcomer Nathan is struck by Sean’s radical commitment as Sean puts his remaining strength into action.
Why it belongs here
For a film that brings desire, disagreements over strategy and illness into the same room. It draws on Act Up-Paris but is not a documentary about the organisation: its characters are written. Death is part of the story.
Before choosing
Choose it for political action and an emerging relationship within the same narrative. The French profile records a French release on 23 August 2017 and distinguishes the film’s fictional characters from the historical movement that informs it.
